Guns N’ RosesやVelvet Revolverのメンバーとして何百万枚ものアルバムを売り上げ、ワールドツアーを何度も行った世界屈指のミュージシャン。グラミー受賞者であり、ロックン・ロール・ホール・オブ・フェイムにも殿堂入りしている。
カリフォルニア州ロングビーチ出身。1960年代にテレビでビートルズを見てドラマーになることを決意、サンセットストリップのクラブから始まり、Tori Amos’ Y Kant Tori Readとして活動したのち、1988年にThe Cult、そしてSLASHに誘われGuns N‘ Rosesの一員として1990〜97年までアルバム制作及びツアーを行った。
その後、GNRのSLASHとDuff McKaganと共にVelvet Revolverを結成すると２枚のアルバムはプラチナムを記録、「Slither」でグラミー受賞。
マットはミュージシャンの中のミュージシャンとして、ハリウッドで確固たる位置を築いた。これまでに彼が関わってきたオールスターバンドには、Steven Tyler、Alice Cooper、Chester Bennington、Corey Tayler、Billy F. Gibbonsなどを迎えたKing of Chaosが含まれている。
2021年には彼の自伝「Double Talkin’ Jive: True Rock ‘n’ Roll Stories from the Drummer of Guns N’ Roses, The Cult, and Velvet Revolver」が出版された。

Matt Sorum is a world-class musician who has sold tens of millions of records with bands such as Guns N’ Roses and Velvet Revolver and has toured the world many times over. He is a Grammy winner and a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee.
Matt is from Long Beach, California and was inspired to become a drummer when he saw The Beatles on TV in the mid-1960s. He started at clubs on the Sunset Strip. He played with Tori Amos’ Y Kant Tori Read. In 1988 he joined The Cult, until he was recruited by Slash to play drums for Guns N’ Roses. He recorded and toured with GNR from 1990 to1997.
He reunited with Slash and Duff McKagan from GNR to form Velvet Revolver. VR released two albums which gained platinum status and earned a Grammy for “Slither”.
Matt’s reputation as a musician’s musician has placed him at the center of Hollywood’s A-list. His all-star bands over the years have include Kings of Chaos whose lineups have starred Steven Tyler, Alice Cooper, the late Chester Bennington, Corey Taylor, and Billy F. Gibbons.
